The Molasses Tides of the Golden Coast
The Golden Coast was once a lucrative frontier of pearlescent sands and booming rum trade. Now, the Winery's colossal waste—a viscous, semi-sentient molasses called 'Blackblood'—bleeds into the tideflats, mutating the local giant-pincer hermit crabs into territorial, shell-stripping monsters. Two factions now clash over the land's future: the industrious Winery Guild, who see the molasses as a necessary, if toxic, engine of economic survival, and the Shoreward Communion, a druidic circle that believes the land's spirit is being poisoned and demands a violent purge of the source. Adventurers are caught in the middle, hired to survey the devastation, but quickly find themselves navigating a web of sabotage, ecological horror, and desperate choices where there are no clean hands.
Chronicle Prelude
The campaign begins in Saltwind Port, a weathered, neutral trading hub built on stilts over the relatively safe upper tideflats. The air smells of brine, tar, and the faint, sickly-sweet undertone of distant molasses. Rumors of monstrous crabs and disappearing scouts are the talk of the tavern, and both the Winery and the Communion have set up recruitment posts in the harbor district.
Environmental Traits
The ultimate crisis is a coming 'Molasses Tide'—a seasonal confluence of high tides and Winery overproduction that threatens to flood the entire coast in a wave of mutagenic sludge, creating an army of monstrous crustaceans and poisoning the land for generations. The players' actions will determine whether the Winery is destroyed, the Communion is silenced, or some terrible middle path is found.
