The Muddied Wells of the Lower City
The Lower City's lifeblood—the communal wells and cistern network—has been choked by viscous mud and foul slime, summoned by desperate mephits and poisoned by a forgotten apothecary's dump. Disease spreads, thirst deepens, and the market teeters on collapse. Two factions emerge from the crisis: one seeks purification at any cost, the other argues the contamination must be contained, not cleansed, to prevent a greater magical cataclysm. Veteran adventurers must navigate the flooded catacombs beneath the city, confront the source of the mephit infestation, and decide the fate of a district's water supply—and the souls bound within it.
Chronicle Prelude
The choked central well of the Lower City Market Square, now a bubbling pit of gray mud and iridescent slime. Ropes and buckets lie abandoned. A crowd of desperate citizens, city guards, and hooded figures from two rival factions argue over the source of the catastrophe and the only path to salvation.
Environmental Traits
The entire Lower City faces a slow death by dehydration and plague. The wells are blocked by elemental mud mephits and fouled by a toxic alchemical residue. The crisis must be resolved by delving into the forgotten cisterns and making a choice that will either purify the water supply or sacrifice it to contain a deeper, awakening threat.
