The Obsidian Strata Crisis
The geothermal paradise of Hotspring Town is dying. Obsidian veins beneath the earth, once a stable thermal regulator, have fractured, unleashing feral magma oozes and scalding steam into the streets. Two powerful entities offer salvation—but their cures may be worse than the disease. The players arrive as the last neutral outsiders, tasked with navigating the treacherous subterranean rifts to either seal the breach for the town's future or exploit it for one faction's gain, forcing a choice with no clean answers.
Chronicle Prelude
Hotspring Town's central plaza, once a bustling spa district, now a hazard zone of cracked flagstones, hissing fumaroles, and a desperate populace. The air shimmers with heat, and the distant, rhythmic bubbling of magma echoes from fissures in the town square. Two prominent buildings remain intact: the Guilded Vein Company's fortified ledger-house and the Ember Covenant's incense-filled shrine.
Environmental Traits
The regional crisis is a cascading geological collapse. The breach in the Obsidian Strata—a magical-magmatic barrier—is growing, threatening to consume the entire valley in a permanent lava flow. The immediate danger is the feral magma oozes that have emerged, but the true disaster is the destabilization of the local elemental planes, which could cause an eruption on a scale unseen for centuries.
