The Petrified Grotto of the Gnomish Miscalculation
You are called to the Sunken Vale, where a gnomish expedition's attempt to power a forgotten temple with 'arcane cables' has instead awakened a slumbering medusa, whose petrifying gaze is now spreading through the roots of the earth. The tunnels are choked with fresh statues—explorers caught mid-scream—and the air hums with unstable magic. Two factions now vie for control of the disaster: the desperate Gnomish Consortium seeking to salvage their reputation and technology, and the Circle of Stone Wardens, druids who believe the medusa is a natural check on mortal hubris that must be allowed to run its course. To reach the heart of this petrifying blight, you must navigate a labyrinth where every shadow could be a statue, every whisper a trap, and every choice a step toward condemning or saving a community.
Chronicle Prelude
The Mossy Threshold Camp, a chaotic gnomish forward base set up in a ravine outside the main dungeon entrance. Wreckage of arcane apparatus litters the ground, and panicky gnomes argue with stern, vine-covered druids. The air smells of ozone and wet stone.
Environmental Traits
The Grotto of the Medusa's Awakening is a multi-layered underground complex originally built as a temple to a forgotten earth deity. The gnomish 'arcane cables' have destabilized its ancient wards, allowing the medusa's petrifying influence to seep upward through the stone, threatening to turn the entire Sunken Vale into a silent garden of statues. The goal is to reach the Inner Sanctum and resolve the crisis—by destroying the medusa, stabilizing the cables, or something far worse.
