The Gnomish Sludge Pact: A Mire of Mud and Malice
The merchant caravans have stopped coming. The road through the Gloomfen Mire is choked, the ground itself hungry. A desperate gnomish alchemical consortium claims their new soil-synthesis sludge is the key to reclaiming the swamp for civilization. In the dark, the mud mephits sing a different song—they speak of the gnomes' expanding, toxic recipe as a poison to their ancient pact with the land itself. You are called to the edge of the mire, where mud swallows steel and the truth is buried deep.
Chronicle Prelude
The Cobbled Causeway Inn, a damp, fortified rest stop on the last solid ground before the Gloomfen Mire. The air smells of wet earth and fear. Merchants huddle, their ledgers full of losses. A gnome in alchemist's goggles, Sprocket, pleads for help; a mud-smeared human druid, Morwen, warns of the land's wrath.
Environmental Traits
The Gloomfen Mire is a vast, unstable wetland being aggressively terraformed by the Gnomish Alchemical Consortium. Their 'Expansive Sludge Recipe' is causing the mud to become unnaturally hungry, swallowing caravans and awakening the territorial mud mephits. The region is on the brink of ecological collapse and war.
