The Resonant Cataclysm: Shield-Vibrations and Broken Wires
You descend into the Glimmervein Caverns, drawn by tales of an ancient duergar armory where enchanted shields hum with a dangerous resonance. But you find a dying world: the arcane ground wires that stabilize the caverns have been violently severed by a desperate bandit gang, causing the shields' vibrations to destabilize the very rock. Now, two factions wage a shadow war—the duergar engineers trying to repair the damage to save their ancestral home, and the myconid colony that has evolved to feed on the resonance, seeing the repair as an extinction event. The air thrums with lethal energy, and every step could trigger a cave-in. The players are caught in the middle, forced to navigate a moral minefield where survival for one means doom for the other.
Chronicle Prelude
The players enter through the Moss-Dripped Cavern Mouth, a relatively stable zone where the frantic duergar foreman, Balkar Ironhand, and the serene myconid sprout-speaker, Zyx, both plead their case. The air vibrates with a low hum, and flickering arcane lights illuminate makeshift camps of both factions.
Environmental Traits
The Glimmervein Caverns are collapsing. The ancient duergar Armory of Resonant Shields, built on a nexus of arcane ground wires, has been sabotaged by the 'Shardbreakers' bandit gang who stole a key harmonic dampener. The ensuing uncontrolled vibrations are destroying the duergar homeland but have created a fertile 'Resonance Garden' for the myconids. Players must navigate the increasingly unstable Underdark to determine the fate of the region: repair the wires and doom the myconids, or let the caverns collapse and doom the duergar.
