The Scalding Requiem of Red-Lotus Lake
The legendary Fire-Tail Water Lizards, once serene guardians of the ecologically unique Red-Lotus Lake, have turned violently aggressive. Their scales crack and weep magma, their keels are fractured by internal heat, and they boil the very water they swim in. The source is the Alchemical Foundry of the Cogwright's Accord, which discharges its ultra-hot, magically-infused wash-water directly into the lake's tributaries. Veterans, you are not here to slay a beast or stop a factory—you are here to arbitrate a dying ecosystem's final, desperate stand against a civilization fighting for its own survival.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at Lakeside Settlement, a ramshackle town of fisherfolk and miners built on stilts over the cooling, but still dangerously warm, outer marshes of Red-Lotus Lake. The air shimmers with heat haze and smells of sulfur and strange alchemical reagents. The locals are divided, some blaming the foundry, others blaming ancient lake spirits.
Environmental Traits
The core conflict is an accelerating ecological collapse: the Fire-Tail Lizards, driven mad by pain and pollution, are migrating upstream towards the foundry, threatening to destroy it and the 2,000 jobs it provides, or else dying in agonized conflagrations that will make the lake permanently uninhabitable. The foundry's 'cleansing' runoff is the only thing keeping the magical, corrosive 'Red-Lotus Bloom' from spreading and consuming the region's freshwater.
