The Salt-Choked Requiem
The White-Salt Coast, once a haven for fishermen and salt merchants, is drowning. A relentless, unnatural tide pushes skeletal horrors onto the shore, and the salt itself seems to weep from the cliffs. Whispers spread from the isolated village of Brinewall: the villagers, in a desperate act of survival, unearthed a 'Forbidden Ocean Idol' from the depths. Now, they pray to it, believing it is their only shield against the tide. The Order of the Cleansing Tide, a militant sect of purists, has arrived to destroy the idol and 'purify' the coast with holy fire, convinced it is the source of the contagion. You arrive as the tide rises, caught between a village's desperate faith and an order's righteous fury. The truth, buried in salt and bone, is far more terrible than either side knows.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive at the storm-battered docks of Brinewall, a fortified fishing village built into the chalky cliffs of the White-Salt Coast. The air is thick with the stench of brine, rot, and fear. The skeletal remains of the recent dead, dragged from their sea-side crypts by the unnatural tide, litter the beach. Villagers move with hollow eyes, clutching crude amulets carved from shell and bone. At the village center, a massive, barnacle-encrusted idol—roughly humanoid but with too many limbs—stands vigil, smeared with fish oil and blood. A contingent of white-robed warriors bearing the golden trident of the Order of the Cleansing Tide makes camp at the edge of the village, their weapons gleaming with sanctified salt.
Environmental Traits
The unnatural Tidal Skeleton Outbreak is not a plague, but a symptom. The Forbidden Ocean Idol is not a god, but a ancient, dormant leviathan's stabilizer core. The villagers' 'prayers' (feeding it blood and offerings) are actually waking it up, sending psychic shockwaves through the necromantic ley-lines of the coast, animating the dead. The Order seeks to destroy it, which will cause a cataclysmic psychic backlash that could sink the entire coast. The players must discover the idol's true nature and decide: let the Order destroy it (saving the immediate area but causing a future catastrophe), help the village fully awaken it (gaining power but unleashing an ancient evil), or find a third, sacrificial path to put the core back to sleep permanently.
