The Sapphire Dust Gambit
The Sapphire Vein Mine, once the economic heart of the frontier town of Dusthaven, is in a state of collapse. A strange, crystalline blight afflicts the miners, turning their lungs to brittle glass and their breath to glittering dust. At the same time, the deep tunnels have been overrun by a warband of crystalline-encrusted Lizardfolk, driven from their ancestral spawning pools by an unknown cataclysm. The mine's overseer, a pragmatic bureaucrat, pushes for a violent purge to resume operations and save the town from ruin. A local druidic circle sees the Lizardfolk and the blight as interconnected symptoms of a wounded earth, and advocates for a radical, risky communion with the land. Dusthaven is dying. You must delve into the Sapphire Vein, uncover the truth behind the corruption, and decide the fate of both the miners and the invaders.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive in Dusthaven, a town choked by a perpetual, glittering haze. The air tastes of metal and sorrow. The Sapphire Vein Mine yawns at the edge of town, its entrance flanked by makeshift hospices filled with coughing miners. The town square is dominated by two figures: Warden Kaelen, hammering new edicts to a notice board, and Sister Elara of the Circle of the Deep Root, tending to the afflicted with poultices that seem to slow but not cure the blight.
Environmental Traits
The regional crisis is two-pronged: the economic strangulation of Dusthaven due to the mine's closure, and the spreading ecological corruption that manifests as the Crystalline Lung Sickness. The ultimate goal is to stop the source of the corruption and broker a lasting resolution, but there is no easy peace—only difficult choices.
