The once-pristine waters of Red-Lotus Lake now shimmer with an oily, heat-haze, its iconic fire-tailed water lizards found dead with keels fractured by unnatural boils. Upstream, the Alchemical Foundry of House Vael discharges ultra-hot, arcane-infused wash-water into the tributaries. The lizards are dying, and the local fishing villages starve. House Vael claims their work is vital for the realm's defense, creating magical armaments. The Church of the Verdant Coil, stewards of the natural world, demands the foundry be purged by fire and flood. Caught in the middle are the desperate villagers who need both the foundry's wages and the lake's bounty. You are drawn into this cauldron of necessity and principle, where every choice boils the blood of one side or another.

Chronicle Prelude

The campaign begins in the muddy, desperate fishing village of Lurehaven, built on the shores of the scarlet-tinged Red-Lotus Lake. The air smells of boiled mud and despair. Fishermen mend nets with grim expressions, children listlessly throw stones into the lifeless shallows, and a lone, withered elder tends a shrine to the Lake-Spirit.

Environmental Traits

The region is in ecological collapse. The Alchemical Foundry's effluent has super-heated the tributaries and infused them with reactive alchemical reagents, causing the unique fire-tailed lizards (whose bioluminescent organs are key to the foundry's process) to suffer a horrific death. The crisis threatens to ignite a three-way conflict between industrial progress, religious dogma, and survival.

Crazed Fire-Tailed Lizard Alpha
A massive reptile, easily twice the size of its healthy kin. Its scales are mottled with angry red welts and patches of crystalline growth. Its tail smolders with a low, unnatural flame, and its eyes glow with a mindless, territorial rage.
