The Scorched Veil: Venom and Mirage
The ancient caravan routes of the Al'Sharq Desert are dying. Giant scorpions, once rare, now swarm the dunes, their venomous stings causing the 'Sand-Scream' plague. A desperate trade thrives at the Oasis of Whispering Palms, where two factions offer salvation: the Order of the Coiled Root, who peddle expensive 'pure' antitoxins, and the Veil Dancers, who distribute 'echo antitoxins'—cheaper, but rumored to be counterfeit and cause madness. In truth, both are partially right and partially wrong, locked in a tragic conflict where survival is a costly gamble. The players, as caravan guards or desert wanderers, must navigate this poisoned economy to find a true cure, or choose who profits from the suffering.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the fortified caravanserai of Dusthaven, a dusty hub at the edge of the deep desert. It is a place of grim commerce, where parched merchants trade rumors of safe routes, and desperate families barter their last coin for a vial of antitoxin. The air smells of sand, sweat, and fear.
Environmental Traits
The regional crisis is the Sand-Scream plague, spreading through scorpion venom and threatening to collapse all desert trade. The true source lies deep within the mythical Sandglass Spire, a place both factions fear and covet.
