The Scorpion Pit and the Meteoric Iron
The colossal Scorpion Pit has yawned open in the desert for generations, a sinkhole where venomous giants breed and meteoric iron—metal from the stars—lies buried at its bottom. Two desperate factions now clash over this resource: the native Scorpion-Folk who view the pit as a sacred ecosystem, and the refugee Hallowfall dwarves who need the iron to forge weapons against the encroaching shadowblight consuming their homeland. Neither side is wholly right or wrong, and the pit's nocturnal inhabitants grow restless with the conflict.
Chronicle Prelude
The player arrives at the Oasis of Whispering Palms, a neutral trading post on the lip of the Scorpion Pit. Tents of both the Scorpion-Folk and Hallowfall dwarves are pitched in wary proximity. The air hums with tension and the distant skittering of chitin at night.
Environmental Traits
The meteoric iron at the chasm-bottom is not just a resource—it is the keystone of the pit's ecological balance. Harvesting it risks collapsing the habitat and unleashing the 'Broodmother,' an ancient scorpion queen. The shadowblight threatening the dwarves, however, is a creeping, real curse that will consume their souls without the iron's purifying properties.
