The Shattered Causeway
The great northern trade road is severed. At Broken-Bridge Station, the vital span across the Churning Gullet estuary lies in ruin, shattered by a mysterious crustacean leviathan. Caravans rot, merchants starve, and two desperate powers have emerged from the wreckage. The Salt-Scribes, a guild of cartographers and engineers, seek to rebuild the bridge at any cost, viewing the monstrous Rock Crab as a resource to be harvested. The Tide-Walkers, a coastal survivalist commune, see the crab as a sacred, territorial spirit and the bridge's destruction as a long-overdue correction. Caught in the middle are the players, hired to secure passage, only to find the road itself is a battlefield of ideology and giant, disguised claws.
Chronicle Prelude
Broken-Bridge Station: A sprawling, makeshift refugee camp and trading post cobbled together from the wreckage of the bridge and surrounding caravans. The air is thick with salt spray, despair, and the distant, rhythmic grinding of stone from the estuary. NPCs huddle around smoky fires, trading rumors and sharpening weapons.
Environmental Traits
The Churning Gullet Estuary, a treacherous tidal zone where the northern road was meant to cross. The shattered remnants of the Great Causeway lie half-submerged, now the domain of a colossal, rock-camouflaged crab and the gangs that worship or hunt it. Victory means securing a new path north, but the cost will be measured in blood, loyalty, and ecological consequence.
