The Shattered Runway
The great Sky-Port of Aethelgard, once a marvel of arcane engineering where sky-vessels docked amidst thunderous machinery, is now a screaming ruin. A catastrophic cascade failure—caused by a 'sweeper construct' run amok—has collapsed the primary launch runway and severed the city's power transmission leads. The port is crippled, and the city's lifeline is cut. You awaken amidst the wreckage, not as heroes, but as survivors caught between two desperate factions, each with a radical plan to restore power and prevent the port—and the city—from sliding into oblivion. Your choices will determine who controls the rebirth of Aethelgard, and what kind of society rises from the ashes.
Chronicle Prelude
You stand in the Grand Docks Alcove, a relatively intact section of the Sky-Port's commercial district. Shattered glass from the domed ceiling rains down in glittering shards, the air is thick with smoke and the acrid tang of ozone from sparking conduits. The distant, rhythmic clang of the runaway 'Sweeper Construct' echoes through the ruined superstructure. Refugees and port workers huddle in makeshift camps, their eyes fixed on you—the only able-bodied souls not yet claimed by despair or allegiance. Two banners are visible: the crimson gears of the Mechanists' Union and the verdant circles of the Spire Wardens.
Environmental Traits
The Sky-Port is a vertical disaster zone. Power is out, communication is dead, and the only way to reach the central Power Core—or escape—is to traverse the shattered infrastructure. The immediate crisis: the Spire Wardens believe the power leads must be severed permanently to prevent a chain reaction that could level the city. The Mechanists' Union insists the leads must be reconnected to power a final, desperate counter-measure. Both sides need the same rare components and access, and they will stop at nothing to get them. The port is collapsing around you, and time is running out.
