The colossal Gear Workshop, the lifeblood of the city-state of Caliburn, has ground to a halt. A catastrophic 'accident' in the central transmission gear array has locked the entire mechanism, halting production of the arcane engines that power the city's defenses and economy. The Mechanist's Guild, masters of the Workshop, blame sabotage. But whispers among the workers speak of forged documents, faulty materials, and a desperate cover-up. Veteran adventurers are hired to investigate, only to find themselves caught between two factions, each with a legitimate claim to survival, and a web of lies where the truth could shatter the city.

Chronicle Prelude

The bustling, steam-choked district of Cogtown, a labyrinth of worker tenements, supply depots, and grimy taverns surrounding the massive, dormant Gear Workshop. The air is thick with tension and the smell of cold metal. The city guard has locked down the Workshop entrance, and citizens are beginning to panic.

Environmental Traits

The city of Caliburn faces imminent collapse. Without the Workshop's output, its arcane shields will fail, leaving it vulnerable to the encroaching Wildlands. The 'accident' was no accident; it was a desperate act to conceal the fact that the new, cheaper materials the city council mandated are fatally flawed under operational stress. Exposing the truth will save the city in the long run but may trigger a violent uprising in the short term.
