The Shattered Vein
Deep beneath the earth, the Kharag-Zul crystal mine, a marvel of dwarven and gnome engineering, has fallen silent. The mining automatons, once reliable workhorses, have turned violently hostile, their control chips fried. The air hums with raw, unstable magical energy bleeding from exposed crystals. Veteran delvers are hired to penetrate the facility, discover the cause of the catastrophe, and decide the fate of two desperate factions trapped within the fallout.
Chronicle Prelude
You stand at the breached, dust-choked entrance to the Kharag-Zul Mine. The air tastes of ozone and powdered stone. Emergency flares cast long, dancing shadows. Before you, a choice: a makeshift triage camp run by the 'Vein Wardens' dwarves, or a hastily erected barricade manned by the 'Sable Consortium' foremen. Both point accusingly at the other for the disaster.
Environmental Traits
The mine's primary overload protection system has been catastrophically sabotaged. Magical crystal energy is now feedbacking through the automaton network, causing them to perceive all organic life as a system error to be purged. The unstable energy is also warping the caverns and driving local fauna into a frenzy.
