The Siren Glow of the Muck Mire

# Wilderness# Social# Fey# Urban

The Muck Mire is a vast, sentient swamp that hungers for the living. Its bioluminescent lantern-fish are not mere fauna, but its predatory appendages, luring the desperate and unwary into sinkholes with false hope. For generations, the 'Glimmerfolk' have served the Mire, guiding its traps in a pact for protection. But a new faction, the 'Duskwarden' smugglers, has learned to mimic the lures with their own decoys, shielding their caravans and sabotaging the Glimmerfolk's sentries. Now, the Mire grows erratic, its hunger unchecked by broken tradition. You are caught between two forces: one bound by ancient, symbiotic sacrifice, the other by ruthless pragmatism and the will to survive.

tech icon Chronicle Prelude

The village of Brackenhollow, built on stilts at the Mire's edge. Lanterns of real fish-oil burn day and night—a fragile ward against the swamp's own siren lights. The air is thick with the smell of wet decay and the distant, hypnotic glow from the deeps. The Glimmerfolk elders speak of broken rites; the Duskwarden smugglers are blamed, but their 'salvage' is the village's only link to the outside world.

tech icon Environmental Traits

The Muck Mire is awakening from a slumber. Its core, the Heart-Root, is destabilized because the Glimmerfolk sentries—their living lantern-fish traps—have been systematically decoyed and disabled by Duskwarden technology. If the Heart-Root is not appeased or the Mire's predatory logic is not circumvented, the entire swamp will expand, consuming Brackenhollow and all surrounding lands in a tide of hungry glow and sucking mud.
