The once-navigable Ice-Crystal Caverns are choked by an unnatural, ever-expanding colony of Frost Slime. A war of survival rages in the cold dark: the Underdark gnomes of Zilargo's exile use illegal Polar Blasting Shells to carve paths and harvest rare crystals, shattering the cavern's fragile ecosystem. The native Crystal Wardens, a reclusive sect of ice-mephits and frost giants, see the gnomes as a plague. You are trapped between two desperate factions fighting for the same frozen territory, where the only way out may be to choose who survives.
Chronicle Prelude
You awaken in the 'Thawing Alcove,' a small, geothermally heated cavern pocket. The air smells of wet stone and ozone. The walls are slick with a thin, pulsating layer of translucent blue slime. Muffled, rhythmic booms echo from deeper tunnels—the gnomish blasters are at work. The way forward is blocked by a wall of solid, living frost slime.
Environmental Traits
The Frost Slime Expansion, accelerated by the gnomes' seismic blasting, is destabilizing the entire cavern system. If unchecked, it will seal the exits and consume all warmth, creating a new glacier. If the gnomes succeed in their harvest, they will trigger a cataclysmic cave-in that will crush them and the Wardens alike. Survival requires navigating this cold war.
