The Sloth's Slumber: A Blockade of Fur and Fang
A colossal, ancient giant sloth has collapsed across the only pass through Sloth Valley, its body a living mountain of fur and moss. Upon its flank grow the rare 'Sloth's Breath' herbs, sought by alchemists and healers across the land. Two desperate factions have staked their claim: one seeks to harvest the herbs at any cost, even if it means disturbing the sacred beast; the other views the sloth as a living deity to be protected. The valley's fate, and the players' moral compass, hang in the balance.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the outer rim of Sloth Valley, at the crossroads settlement of Moss Haven. The road ahead is visibly blocked by a hulking, moss-covered mound that, upon closer inspection, is breathing. Villagers whisper of the 'Great Sleeper' that has chosen this spot to die, its body slowly becoming part of the landscape. Two groups have set up camp: the Harvest Consortium from the city, and the Circle of the Green Sloth from the deep woods.
Environmental Traits
The central crisis is the blockade itself. The road is impassable, cutting off trade and travel. The rare herbs on the sloth's flank could cure a regional plague (Consortium's claim) or fuel a dangerous arcane experiment (their hidden motive). The Circle believes moving or harming the sloth will trigger a catastrophic ecological collapse in the valley. Victory is finding a path through the valley without causing irreversible harm, or choosing which irreversible harm is the lesser evil.
