The Starving Deep: Troglodyte Shafts & the Crumbling Crust

# Dungeon# Dark Fantasy# Intrigue# Wilderness

Beneath the crumbling crust of the Thornveil Plateau, a desperate war of survival rages not with swords, but with shovels and hunger. The Ghaunadaur-worshipping Troglodytes of the 'Deep-Maw Clan' are not mere monsters—they are a starving people, driven from their ancestral spawning pools by a creeping, fungal blight. They dig frantically, following ancient scent-trails and residual crumbs, seeking a legendary subterranean mess hall known as 'The Crust,' rumored to be a sealed dwarven granary. Meanwhile, the 'Stone-Sentinel Order,' a hardline sect of Moradin-worshipping shield dwarves, views the tunnels as sacred ancestral wards. Their rigid doctrine demands the Troglodytes be exterminated as defilers of the deep, lest the 'Warding Glyphs' they believe hold back a greater darkness be disturbed. The truth is buried in forgotten ledgers: 'The Crust' is no granary, but a failed, cursed communal feast-hall from a doomed dwarven expedition, its magic now warping sustenance into maddening ambrosia. Both factions are right, and both are terribly wrong.

tech icon Chronicle Prelude

The campaign begins in 'Glimmerhold Outpost,' a fortified, surface-level waystation on the Thornveil Plateau. It is a neutral ground, filled with grim prospectors, desperate refugees from the deep, and the ever-present tension between miners who trade with the underdark and the Stone-Sentinel patrols who view such trade as treason. The air smells of cold stone and paranoia.

tech icon Environmental Traits

The region is a tectonic nightmare: unstable shafts, toxic fungal blooms, and pockets of liquefying stone threaten all who delve deep. The ultimate goal is to reach the heart of the 'Troglodyte Pit Dungeon' and decide the fate of 'The Crust,' an artifact that can either starve or drive mad.
