The Stolen Swarm: A Curse of Honey and Hunger
The verdant, ancient Wildberry Woods have long provided for the frontier town of Millhaven. Now, a crisis unfolds: the town's magical apiaries are ravaged, the legendary Queen Bee, source of enchanted honey that powers Millhaven's wards and healing, is stolen. Suspicions fall on the reclusive Thornwood Keepers, a druidic circle deep in the woods who have been increasingly territorial. But the truth is far grimmer. The Keepers are not thieves; they are desperate. A primal, mutated Dire Bear, driven mad by a parasitic fungal growth from a corrupted ancient tree, has usurped their sacred grove and is draining the forest's life-force. The stolen Queen Bee was a desperate act to lure the bear away from the last uncorrupted heart-tree. The players, hired by Millhaven's desperate Beekeeper's Guild, must navigate the blame, the wilderness, and the bear's domain to uncover the truth and decide: sacrifice the Queen to save the forest, or reclaim her to save the town, dooming the wilderness to rot.
Chronicle Prelude
The fortified town of Millhaven, built around the Great Apiary, is tense. Market stalls sell dwindling honey rations, alchemists' shops are shuttered, and the town's protective thorn-hedge wall shows signs of decay. The Beekeeper's Guild Master, a haggard woman named Elara, pleads with the party in the crowded, anxious town square.
Environmental Traits
The regional crisis is a tripartite collapse: the magical ecosystem of Wildberry Woods is rotting from a central corruption, the frontier town of Millhaven is losing its economic and magical lifeblood (enchanted honey), and the two dependent communities (townsfolk and druids) are on the brink of a violent, misdirected conflict.
