The Thousand-Needle Fracture: Pheromone and Steel
In the jagged, wind-scoured expanse of the Thousand-Needle Spires, a symbiotic relationship has been shattered. The colossal, docile Shink Lizards, whose burrowing stabilizes the very bedrock, are dying en masse. Their crucial safety-cords—biological tethers that anchor them to the spires—have been severed, and their nests plundered. Left behind are the Pheromone Tracker Dyes, a vibrant, telltale residue splashed across the crime scenes by the thieves to mark their haul. Two factions now vie for control of the region's future, each with a desperate claim to the lizards' fate. The players are drawn into a web of ecological sabotage, stolen potential, and a harsh landscape where every choice fractures the ground beneath someone's feet.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the makeshift frontier settlement of 'Rivet's Rest,' clinging to the base of the tallest spire. It's a grimy hub of salvagers, prospectors, and grim-faced naturalists. The air hums with the low, mournful cries of injured Shink Lizards and the clanging of makeshift repair forges. Two flags fly prominently: the green and brown of the Spires' Wardens, and the stark, industrial gray of the Geode Consortium.
Environmental Traits
The central crisis is the systematic destabilization of the Thousand-Needle Spires. Without the Shink Lizards' burrowing, the spires are developing dangerous internal fractures. The region faces total geological collapse, which would obliterate the unique ecosystem, bury ancient ruins beneath, and sever a vital trade corridor. The players must navigate the conflict, uncover the true cause of the severings, and make an irreversible choice about the lizards'—and the region's—survival.
