The worms are not mere beasts; they are semi-intelligent ecosystem pillars, and their erratic surfacing, lured by the varnish, has shattered the fragile balance. You arrive in Dusthaven not as heroes, but as outsiders drawn by rumors of wealth, only to find a community on the brink, where every coin is stained with the blood of the land itself.

Chronicle Prelude

Dusthaven, a fortress-town of ramshackle scrap-metal walls and subterranean warrens, built into the shadow of a massive fossilized worm skeleton. The air is thick with the acrid smell of varnish production and the constant, low hum of seismic activity. Merchants, mercenaries, and desperate families crowd the central bazaar, bartering varnish-ration chips for water and hardtack.

Environmental Traits

The Varathian worms, driven into a frenzy by the over-harvesting of their salts, are surfacing more frequently and closer to Dusthaven. The settlement's varnish-dependent economy is the very thing summoning its doom. The ultimate victory is not slaying a god-worm, but navigating the impossible choice: preserve a community's survival at the cost of an ancient ecosystem, or save the land and condemn the people to starvation and dissolution.
