You are trapped in the rising waters, caught between those who would unleash the flood to save the world from a worse fate, and those who would condemn millions to die slowly to preserve a doomed status quo. Chronicle Prelude

The floating slum-haven of Pillar Town, a ramshackle settlement built atop the last exposed pillars of the old aqueduct bridge, now an island in a sea of churning, murky water. The air is thick with the smell of damp rot and desperation, and the constant, distant roar of the Upstream Dam is a grim metronome counting down the time left.

Environmental Traits

The Vashkar Basin is undergoing a catastrophic, magically accelerated flood cycle. The Upstream Dam, a colossal ancient structure, holds back the 'Abyssal Reservoir,' a pocket dimension of primordial water. If the dam breaks fully, the entire region will be submerged in a tidal wave that will not recede for centuries. If the dam is sealed completely, the trapped, sentient water will achieve critical mass and awaken the 'Drowned God,' an entity that will drown the world from within its prison. There is no safe outcome, only choices of who suffers and how.
