The Verdant Schism of Greatwood Keep
Greatwood Keep stands not as a castle of stone, but as a living fortress of ancient, colossal vines woven into a bulwark. For centuries, the Guardian Vine Soldiers—sentient, humanoid plants—protected its human inhabitants. Now, a creeping blight rots the vines from within, driving the soldiers into a frenzy. The Adjutant, the keep's alchemist, brews potent Pruning Elixirs that can halt the blight, but at a terrible cost: each dose permanently severs a vine soldier's connection to the collective, turning it into a mindless, wooden corpse. You arrive at the crumbling heart of this symbiotic society, forced to choose between preserving the living weapon or sacrificing it for the illusion of safety.
Chronicle Prelude
The Outer Cortyard of Greatwood Keep: A tangled courtyard where vine-woven sentinels patrol alongside human guards. The air is thick with the scent of sap and decay. The ground is a carpet of moss and fallen leaves, punctuated by strange, pulsing nodules. The central keep looms ahead, a twisted spire of living wood and stone.
Environmental Traits
The Greatwood itself is dying. A parasitic blight, 'The Grey Rot,' spreads through the root network, causing the Guardian Vine Soldiers to lose their minds, becoming aggressive and unstable. The keep's human leadership is fractured between those who see the vines as partners to be healed and those who see them as a failing system to be purged and replaced.
