Zephyr Valley, once a serene haven known for its pristine mountain air and therapeutic hot springs, is now a battleground of soiled linens and gusty politics. The recent, disastrous opening of the 'Grand Valley Laundry' - a venture promising magical, wind-powered cleaning - has unleashed a plague of chaotic Wind Mephits. These pranksters, drawn to the magical resonance of the laundry's enchanted drying racks, have turned the valley into a maelstrom of stolen socks, tangling vines, and soot-stained air. Two factions now vie for control: the industrious Laurel Consortium, who built the laundry and see the mephits as a temporary pest to be exterminated, and the Circle of the Whispering Gale, druids who claim the laundry's magical core is an abomination disrupting the valley's ancient elemental spirits. Your party arrives to deliver a simple parcel, only to find yourselves caught in the eye of the storm, where every choice will determine who controls the valley's future - and whose linens are left out in the rain.

Chronicle Prelude

The party arrives at the bustling, anxious town of Freshwater Falls, nestled at the valley's entrance. The town square is dominated by a large, newly erected (and slightly crooked) sign reading 'GRAND VALLEY LAUNDRY - NOW OPEN! MAGICAL WIND DRYING GUARANTEED!' The air smells of ozone, damp wool, and panic. Townsfolk hurry about, many shielding baskets of laundry from sudden, mischievous gusts. A group of frustrated guards from the Laurel Consortium stands near the road leading deeper into the valley, while a cluster of robed figures (the Whispering Gale) can be seen debating near the town's ancient geyser.

Environmental Traits

The valley is destabilizing. The Grand Valley Laundry's magical core, a 'Zephyr Engine' drawing power from a nexus of elemental air, is overloading. This has attracted a swarm of Wind Mephits who feed on the chaotic energy, and is causing the valley's natural winds to become unpredictable and violent. The ultimate crisis: the engine will either explode, scouring the valley clean of all life, or the druids will succeed in shutting it down permanently, dooming the valley's economy and the livelihoods of hundreds. The players must navigate the conflict and find a third, stabilizing option—or choose a side to empower.

Geyser Hermit Hank
A grizzled old human man, his skin weathered like old leather and his beard stained with mineral deposits. He wears furs and patched robes, and smells strongly of sulfur and hot springs. He lives in a crude shelter near a cluster of bubbling geysers.

A human woman in her thirties, looking perpetually exhausted. Her Consortium uniform is stained with soot and cleaning agents, and she carries a clipboard. Dark circles shadow her eyes, and she flinches at sudden loud noises from the factory.
The Bound Zephyr
A massive, vaguely humanoid shape of swirling wind, dust, and crackling lightning, trapped within a cage of brass rings and crystal pillars. Its form is erratic, lashing out with gale-force bursts, and its voice is a chorus of agonized howls and mournful sighs. It is not evil, but in profound, magical pain.
