An independent investigator is summoned to a remote frontier town to examine the circumstances surrounding a death in a locked saloon backroom. The local power structure, built on land and influence, presents a surface of dusty calm. Below it, the investigator must navigate competing claims, personal histories, and the physical residue of a single night's events to reconstruct a factual sequence.
Initial Crime Scene
The thick, sweet smell of spilled whiskey cuts through the stale beer and sawdust as you push through the saloon's back door. Your boots sink into the deep grain of the pine floorboards, the creak of the wood a lone, mournful sound in the sudden silence. Lamplight glints off the obsidian surface of a single poker chip, positioned beneath the still figure on the floor. Dust motes hang suspended in the amber air, disturbed only by your entrance. A ledger lies pried open on the writing table, its binding torn apart.
Crime Scene Environment
The scene is enveloped in a high-plains lonesome atmosphere, under the weak, flickering glow of a kerosene lamp that casts long, dancing shadows.
