An independent investigator arrives at Thornfield Manor following the sudden death of Lord Alistair Finch-Thornfield in his study. The household consists of the late lord's nephew, Edmund; the steward, Harold Francis Finch; the widow, Beatrice Eleanor Thornfield; her daughter, Eleanor Beatrice Thornfield; and the governess, Clara Ann Vance. The investigation must piece together the events of the evening from conflicting statements and physical evidence found within the manor's rooms.

Crime Scene Environment
The environment is defined by a pervasive, stifling hush, punctuated by the perfunctory tick of mechanical clocks.
