An investigator is called to a recording studio during a high-stakes session for a comeback album. The original lyric sheet for the lead single has been altered, and a series of technical discrepancies have emerged within the studio's systems and personnel logs. The investigation must untangle the overlapping accounts and physical evidence to reconstruct the events of a single, critical evening.
Initial Crime Scene
The smell of stale cigarette smoke and ozone from aging electronics hangs in the recycled air. The rhythmic hum of a tape machine's cooling fan provides a constant, low drone. Directly ahead, shredded paper strips overflow from a metal wastebasket. To the left, a bank of black-and-white security monitors flicker with static-laced feeds. On the mixing console, a sheet of lyric paper is clipped to a stand, its surface marked with a thick, opaque white substance.
Crime Scene Environment
The sandbox is defined by a harsh, functional lighting profile from overhead fluorescents and single gooseneck lamps, creating pools of stark light against deep shadows. The humidity is controlled and dry, maintained for sensitive analog equipment, with a cool, stable temperature. The acoustic density is high, with persistent background noise from humming machines, buzzing lights, and the muffled, distant thump of music from other rooms.
