The Archive of Errant Quills
The Grand Archive of Xyrathis is dying. Its magical matrices, woven into the very paper and ink of its countless scrolls, are unraveling. Pages adhere to the wrong tomes, sequence numbers in vital historical ledgers are scrambled, and the guardian construct, the Tomekeeper, grows increasingly erratic. You are not heroes called to slay a dragon, but archivists, scholars, and mercenaries hired for the most delicate of tasks: restoration. But as you delve deeper, you find the 'errors' are not random decay, but a desperate, hidden war fought with metaphors and marginalia. To restore the Archive, you must first understand who is fighting, why, and decide whose version of history deserves to be saved.
Chronicle Prelude
The Reading Room of the Grand Archive. A cavernous, silent hall of towering shelves, smelling of old paper, dust, and faint ozone. The air hums with latent magic. Hired for a straightforward restoration contract, you stand before a massive oak desk where the Chief Archivist, a harried human woman named Elara, explains the 'random' degradation affecting the inner stacks. The real work begins when she hands you your first folio, its pages stubbornly fused together with a magical, tell-tale blue adhesive.
Environmental Traits
The entire campaign takes place within the Grand Archive of Xyrathis, a planar nexus library that exists simultaneously in multiple locations. The crisis is a metaphysical cancer: the physical disarray (swapped numbers, adhered sheets) mirrors a deeper, ideological schism among the Archive's guardians over the nature of memory and truth. The victory condition is not the restoration of order, but the decisive resolution of that schism before the Tomekeeper's logic collapses entirely, erasing the Archive and everyone in it from existence.
