The Basilisk's Bile: A Petrified River's Reckoning
You awaken in the petrified husk of a caravan wagon, its stone passengers frozen in mid-scream. The 'Bile'—a viscous, toxic runoff from illegal alchemical factories—has transformed the once-navigable River of Whispers into a labyrinth of calcified horrors and mutating basilisk warrens. Two desperate factions offer conflicting salvation: one seeks to purify the river at any cost, the other claims the corruption is a necessary evil for survival. Your journey through four layers of petrified hell will force you to choose whose vision of the future you will allow to be set in stone.
Chronicle Prelude
The Stonehaven Refugee Camp, a precarious settlement built on the highest, least-corrupted islets of the flooded river delta. Tents are pitched on a mosaic of petrified flora, and the air hums with the low throb of alchemical filtration pumps. The refugees are a mix of surface-dwellers displaced by the poisoning and grim Underdark survivors, all casting wary glances at the shifting, statue-choked riverways that stretch into the gloom.
Environmental Traits
The central crisis is the catastrophic petrification of the Great River of Whispers, the lifeblood of a hidden Underdark basin. This was caused by the runoff from 'The Crucible,' a clandestine gnome alchemical collective dumping unstable basilisk-derived compounds. The corruption is now self-sustaining, birthing new basilisks and turning the river into a spreading zone of petrification that threatens to entomb the entire region.
