The Shallows Lighthouse, a crumbling sentinel on a jagged coast, has failed. Its beacon, meant to guide ships, now blinds them with erratic, pulsating light, luring them to ruin on the rocks. Coastguard patrols vanish. Fishermen whisper of 'shell-giants' emerging from the tide and 'glowing moss' that chokes the harbor. Behind the catastrophe are two desperate factions: the rigid, duty-bound Lightwardens who believe only by purging the corrupted 'Deep-Sea Moss' from the lighthouse's heart can order be restored, and the smuggler-guild 'The Tide-Turners' who cultivate that very moss, claiming it is the only cure for the creeping 'Saltrot' plague decimating their families in the coastal slums. To reach the truth, the party must navigate treacherous, crab-infested shoals, infiltrate a labyrinthine sea cave system, and ultimately decide who deserves the power of the lighthouse's core.

Chronicle Prelude

The salt-scoured port town of Brinewall, a place of rotting piers and panicked whispers. The malfunctioning Shallows Lighthouse dominates the horizon, its erratic pulses casting long, moving shadows over the town square where the town elder pleads for aid, and a grizzled smuggler captain offers a different, whispered perspective in the tavern's back room.

Environmental Traits

The entire coastal region is destabilized. Ships wreck weekly, the local economy is collapsing, and a mysterious wasting disease, the Saltrot, is spreading through the lower districts. The source of both the lighthouse's madness and the smugglers' desperate secret lies within the light's own mechanism, deep in a submerged cavern.
