Veteran adventurers are drawn to Shell Beach by tales of a treasure more valuable than gold: a pre-Calamity library of arcane knowledge, sealed in a vault that can only be opened by solving the 'Bivalve Trap-Snappings.' But the beach is not empty; two desperate factions clash over the right to plunder its depths, and the very sand is riddled with ancient, lethal crab cages waiting to snap shut.

Chronicle Prelude

The players arrive at the windswept, fog-shrouded expanse of Shell Beach. To the north lies the relative safety of 'The Brine Barrel,' a fortified tavern and trading post built from the hull of a shipwreck. To the south, the beach stretches into a maze of tidal pools, petrified driftwood, and the ominous, clicking sounds of unseen mechanisms. The air smells of salt, decay, and old magic.

Environmental Traits

The regional crisis centers on the 'Tidal Vault,' a submerged temple complex said to hold the 'Crab Cage Codex,' a tome that details the construction of the very biomechanical traps infesting the beach. The faction that controls the Codex controls the beach—and the flow of ancient knowledge. However, activating the Vault's defenses has begun a slow, inexorable process of 'The Great Snapping,' a magical tide that will petrify all life on the coast within a moon's cycle unless stopped.
