The piers of Gold Beach groan under the weight of a new, horrifying crustacean aristocracy. Enormous, intelligent hermit crabs, their shells cobbled from sunken ships and petrified driftwood, have claimed the entire waterfront. But this is no simple infestation. Behind the ruins of the old Distillery, a thick, sweet-smelling river of industrial molasses oozes into the bay, a potent attractant and mutagen. The city's prosperity hangs by a thread, strangled by a toxic stench and a monstrous, sticky siege. Veterans will find no clean heroes here, only desperate survivors and opportunists, each with a claim to the poisoned shore.

Chronicle Prelude

The Salted Flagon, a makeshift tavern in the flooded merchant quarter, is now a bunker of sorts. Refugees from the piers crowd around tables, smelling of brine and desperation. The air hums with the drone of flies drawn to the perpetual sweetness. Through the boarded windows, one can see the massive, shuffling silhouettes of the Crab-Kings against the twilight, their antennae probing the ruins of what was once a thriving port.

Environmental Traits

The crisis is the convergence of two disasters: a monstrous crustacean migration driven by a newfound, potent food source, and the catastrophic failure of the Gold Beach Distillery, whose magical industrial processes have saturated the bay with a high-concentration, mutagenic molasses. To save the city, one must resolve the root cause, but the factions cannot agree on what that cause is.
