The Inktide Scourge of Star Lake
You arrive in the once-thriving lakeside city of Starlake, now choking on a toxic, magical miasma. The phosphorescent Giant Octopus that once brought wonder and a unique ink harvest now drags entire fishing boats to the depths, its glow turned a sickly green. The waterfront gangs, desperate to dispose of their alchemical waste, have poisoned the creature's habitat, creating a monster out of a marvel. Two desperate factions offer you contradictory solutions: kill the beast to save the city, or save the beast to save the soul of the lake. Your choices will determine what—and who—survives.
Chronicle Prelude
The Rusty Lantern tavern on the docks of Starlake's Old Quarter. The air smells of brine and ozone. Weary fishermen nurse cheap ale, their nets empty. Through the grimy windows, the lake's surface shimmers with an unnatural, sickly glow, and the skeletal frames of half-sunk boats litter the shallows. Whispers of a 'hungry ghost in the deep' mix with the angry shouts of dockworkers who blame the fishermen for the city's decline.
Environmental Traits
Star Lake is dying. The noble Giant Phosphorescent Octopus, a source of rare arcane ink and a symbol of the city's prosperity, has become a rabid, territorial beast. Its attacks have crippled the fishing fleet. The cause is the clandestine dumping of spoiled, mutagenic arcane ink by the Crimson Tide gang, whose alchemical operations on the north shore have seeped into the lake's waters. The city's water supply is becoming tainted, and panic is setting in. The player must navigate this ecological and social crisis, choosing between two radical solutions.
