The Emberfurnace Crucible: Riot of Forge and Hearth
The ancient Duergar forge-city of Emberfurnace, a monument to grim industry built atop a geothermal vent, has erupted into chaos. The city's lifeblood, the Hearth-Heart—a semi-sentient elemental core powering all forges—has become unstable, birthing rampaging fire creatures. Two factions vie for control: the Forge-Wardens who see the Heart as a sacred engine of industry to be contained and healed at any cost, and the Hearth-Sunderers who believe it is a parasitic entity that must be destroyed to free the city from its dangerous dependency, even if it means abandoning their ancestral home. Players are trapped in the middle, forced to navigate riots, collapsing tunnels, and moral ambiguity to reach the core and decide the fate of a civilization.
Chronicle Prelude
The Grand Tiered Plaza, a cavernous district of Emberfurnace where massive, smoke-stained forges line walkways of cooled slag. The air shimmers with heat, and the distant, rhythmic hammering of the city has fallen silent, replaced by the crackle of elemental fire and the shouts of panicked Duergar. Debris blocks major thoroughfares, and the glow of the unstable Hearth-Heart pulses from the city's deepest level.
Environmental Traits
A subterranean geothermal metropolis is tearing itself apart. The Flaming Hearth-Heart, once the source of controlled, immense power, is now spawning uncontrolled fire elementals and magma-krakens. The city's life-support systems—air circulation, water purification, and forge-cooling—are failing. The crisis is both a physical cataclysm and a philosophical schism, forcing the players to choose between preserving a dying way of life or performing a mercy killing on it.
