The failsafe protocols, designed to maintain thermal equilibrium, have been deliberately sabotaged by the lead researcher, Dr. Elara Vance, who now slumbers in a death-like trance within the Inner Sanctum, her mind trapped in a psychic battle with the very forces she sought to control. The Institute is a maze of frozen laboratories, superheated reactor cores, and dripping ooze corridors, where the only path forward is through the warring factions of the surviving staff, each with a desperate plan to stop the fusion—and each willing to sacrifice something vital.
