The Inkblight Codex
The Grand Athenaeum of Veridias, a repository of knowledge older than empires, is under quarantine. Threatening letters, penned by an automated quill of unknown origin, have begun appearing on the desks of scholars, predicting and inciting horrific accidents. The magical ink they're written with, 'Sanguis Atramenti', is a rare substance that warps reality when its words are read aloud. Veteran players are hired by the city watch to infiltrate the sealed library, identify the source of the quill, and stop the prophesied tragedies, only to discover the truth is far more complex and morally agonizing than a simple haunting.
Chronicle Prelude
The Grand Athenaeum's outer plaza, now a makeshift camp for the city watch and displaced scholars. The colossal bronze doors are magically sealed, and a palpable tension hangs in the air. Rival groups of scholars, one led by the pragmatic Archivist Valerius and the other by the visionary Scribe Lyra, argue over the cause and solution.
Environmental Traits
The 'Inkblight' is spreading. The Sanguis Atramenti ink is seeping into the library's foundation, causing localized reality distortions and empowering the very texts within. The ultimate goal is to reach the heart of the Athenaeum, the Chamber of the First Word, where the source of both the quill and the ink resides, and decide the fate of all knowledge within.
