The Inverted Snares of Blackwood Station
Deep in the Thornwood, the once-safe Blackwood Station—a vital waypoint for travelers—has become a deathtrap. Animated snares, triggered by inverted lodestones stolen by the Crimson Grasp bandit gang, lash out indiscriminately. But the Crimson Grasp isn't merely evil; they are a displaced community of refugees from a purged frontier town, using the station's own defenses to carve out a sanctuary and repel the relentless expansion of the Merchant's Compact, who seek to control all trade routes by any means necessary. Your party arrives to find the station in chaos, caught in the crossfire of two desperate factions, each controlling half of the station's trap mechanisms.
Chronicle Prelude
The Outer Yards of Blackwood Station are a maze of overgrown courtyards and collapsed stables, littered with the twitching remains of sprung snares and the quiet tension of a standoff. Flickering lights from the fortified Station House and the hidden bandit camp in the old mill reflect off pools of stagnant water. The air hums with latent arcane energy from the lodestones.
Environmental Traits
The station's core arcane engine, a network of lodestones designed for defense, has been fractured. The Crimson Grasp has inverted half to target Compact mercenaries, while the Compact's engineers desperately try to recalibrate the other half. This magical civil war has turned the entire region into a lethally unpredictable snare-field. The only way to end the carnage is to reach the Lodestone Nexus in the station's depths and choose whose version of 'order' will be imposed.
