Beneath the waves of a forgotten coast lies the Stone Forest—a petrified coral labyrinth where colossal, territorial pistol shrimp shatter keels and hulls with sonic snaps. Smugglers have recently seeded the depths with Disruption Crystals, volatile arcane resonators designed to scatter and disorient the Forest's guardian shrimp, clearing paths for illicit cargo runs. But the crystals' chaotic resonance is unraveling the Stone Forest's delicate ecosystem, poisoning the water and driving its inhabitants to madness. Two desperate factions now vie for control: the Reef Wardens, who see the crystals as the only way to survive and profit, and the Tidal Preservationists, who believe the Forest must be healed at any cost, even if it means sinking every smuggler ship on the surface.

Chronicle Prelude

The players arrive at Tidegate, a ramshackle, half-submerged trading post built into the side of a sea cliff. It serves as the last dry-land outpost before the entrance to the flooded Stone Forest. The air is thick with salt, brine, and the distant, echoing 'snap' of giant pistol shrimp. Fisherfolk, smugglers, and desperate prospectors eye each other warily over drinks of murky grog.

Environmental Traits

The Stone Forest is dying. The Disruption Crystals, while granting temporary safe passage, are shattering the crystalline structures that form the Forest's 'veins,' leaching a toxic, iridescent sludge that clouds the water and maddens wildlife. The ultimate goal is to reach the Forest's Heart-Chamber, where the primary crystal deposit and the ancient, massive Keel-Fracturer shrimp reside, and decide the ecosystem's fate.
