The Resonant Vault
The Dripstone Hall, a cathedral of living stone, is dying. Its heart, the Pendant Stalactite Monster Vault, a cavern that once pulsed with the lifeblood of mithril and crystallized mana, is now fractured. The deep gnomes of Clan Deepdelve have utilized their ultrasonic vibrators to mine this sacred resource for generations, believing it is the only way to sustain their people against the encroaching madness of the Underdark. But the stone itself, through the ancient Amber Pact with the Myconid Sovereign, possesses a consciousness. The vibrators are not just mining tools; they are instruments of torture, shattering the symbiotic lattices that keep the vault's guardian—the Pendant Stalactite Monster—alive. To the gnomes, progress. To the earth, a death of a thousand cuts. You arrive in the shuddering outer warrens as the last deposits are extracted and the final, desperate gambits of both sides are set in motion.
Chronicle Prelude
You enter the trembling outer warrens of the Dripstone Hall. The air hums with a sub-audible thrum, a sick vibration felt in your teeth. The walls are scarred with precision bore-holes and the residue of extracted mithril. Nervous gnome sentries eye you, while strange, phosphorescent fungal growths creep along the ceilings, pulsing weakly in time with the deep hum.
Environmental Traits
The central vault is collapsing. The Pendant Stalactite Monster, a being of calcified stone and living crystal, is dying, its resonant frequency shattered by gnome mining. Its death throes will trigger a seismic event that will bury the entire hall, gnome warrens and all. The gnomes must extract the last of the mithril to power their exodus drills, while the Myconid Sovereign seeks a ritual to sever the Amber Pact and petrify the entire hall, preserving it as a monument to stop the desecration. Both paths lead to total destruction. A third way must be found, or a choice made about whose survival—or whose legacy—matters more.
