The Sable Tide: Nightmare Stampede of the Stable District
The once-proud Stable District of the city of Oakhaven has been consumed by a nocturnal madness. Horses, warhorses, and even draft animals have transformed into shrieking, ethereal nightmares that stampede through the cobblestones at dusk, their eyes burning with fey light. The source is the 'Stimulant Feed'—a desperate concoction created by the Stablemaster to combat a creeping blight that was rotting the animals from within. Now, two factions fight over the fate of the district: the Purifiers who seek to burn the contagion out, and the Conserver who believe the madness is a painful but necessary transformation. Players are caught in the middle, forced to navigate a city district that is part warzone, part haunted forest.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive at the barricaded gates of Oakhaven's Stable District. The air smells of ozone, burnt hay, and something sweetly rotten. City guards, their faces pale, warn you that entry after sundown is suicide. The distant, rhythmic thunder of hooves on stone is a constant, terrifying heartbeat. The Stablemaster's guildhall, the source of the madness, stands in the distance, its windows glowing with an eerie, pulsating violet light.
Environmental Traits
The Stable District is a dying ecosystem. A fey blight from the nearby Thornwood is seeping into the soil and water, causing a wasting sickness in the livestock. The Stablemaster's 'Stimulant Feed'—a mix of alchemical stimulants and raw fey essence—was meant to strengthen the animals against the blight, but it instead shattered their minds, turning them into spectral nightmares that now threaten to break the barricades and infest the rest of Oakhaven. Victory lies not in simple slaughter, but in deciding the district's fate: purification by flame, or a painful symbiosis with the fey.
