Perytons, creatures of shadow and hunger, descend from the peaks with terrifying frequency, their attacks coordinated and brutal. But the true poison lies within: the Wood Wardens and the Skybreak Circle, two factions of the elven rangers, have shattered into open schism. Each blames the other for the peryton scourge, each seeks a 'cure' that the other deems heresy. Caught in the middle are the Wood's few remaining neutral settlements. Veteran players will navigate a web of accusations, desperate alliances, and the haunting question: is the true enemy the monstrous perytons, or the elves who have forgotten their brotherhood?
Chronicle Prelude
Players arrive at the neutral trading post of Elderhaven, a fortified clearing at the edge of Silvercrown Wood. It is the last place where members of both elven factions still trade warily. Smoke from recent peryton attacks hangs in the air, and the tension is palpable. A desperate council seeks outsiders who might succeed where elves have failed: to venture into the heart of the Wood and the Skyreach Peaks to discover the truth.
Environmental Traits
The Silvercrown Wood is dying. The great silverbark trees are blackening from within, and the spiritual wards that once kept the wood's darker denizens at bay are failing. The peryton attacks are a symptom of a deeper corruption. The two factions offer two incompatible salvation paths: the Wood Wardens seek to perform a brutal, ancient ritual to 'purify' the Wood by sacrificing its corrupted heart, while the Skybreak Circle believes the corruption stems from a celestial imbalance and seeks to realign the stars using a forbidden altar in the peaks. Both paths risk annihilating the Wood and its people. The players must choose a side, forge a third path, or let the schism run its bloody course.
