The Silverton Silence
A wealthy silver baron is found dead in his remote mining town mansion. The local whisper of a werewolf curse provides a distraction. The player must untangle a web of class shame, illicit alliances, and panicked cover-ups to reveal the human truth behind the 'beast'.
Initial Crime Scene
The heavy velvet curtain parts, and a draft smelling of cold ashes and tarnished silver brushes your face. Your boot heel grinds on soil and debris packed deep into the hallway floorboards. A distant, rhythmic click-clack from a clockwork mechanism echoes through the stillness, the only sound besides the creak of timber settling. Three markers dominate your first view: the polished, dark wood of a heavy safe door to your left, the crimson glow of embers in a pot-bellied stove ahead, and the deep, parallel scratches marring the hardwood floor near the settee.
Crime Scene Environment
Lighting is a study in deep shadow and isolated, warm pools from oil lamps, creating stark contrast. The air carries a persistent, damp chill, with humidity clinging to surfaces and a temperature that seeps into the bones. Acoustic density is high; sounds are muffled by heavy fabrics and thick walls, making any sudden noise—a creak, a distant howl—seem louder and more isolated.
Investigation Constraints
Late 19th-century frontier technology: mechanical pocket watches, oil lamps, manual printing presses, telegraph machines, wind-up music boxes, hand-cranked phonographs. No electricity, no digital systems. Information is stored in handwritten ledgers, newspaper broadsheets, and personal diaries.
