Initial Crime Scene
The heavy scent of bilge water and damp hemp fills your nostrils as you cross the threshold into the forepeak storage locker. Your boot lands on creaking timber, the sound swallowed by a fog-muffled silence that presses in from all sides. Before you, in the gloom cast by a single, grime-caked deck prism, your eyes register three details: the unnatural deformation in a section of salt-rusted iron foredeck rail, the stark rectangular indentation left in the soft teak decking by a missing heavy object, and the fine, undisturbed dust blanket covering two locked sea chests.
Crime Scene Environment
The vessel exists under a perpetual twilight, its lighting profile defined by dim, smudged whale-oil lamps and the weak, grime-filtered light from deck prisms. The humidity and temperature profile is one of persistent, penetrating dampness, a cold that clings to the air and surfaces.
